sneak peek of Finland

My first week in Finland was great!

Now I am very enthusiatic about Finland. On my very first day I corrected my thesis till next day 3 am, so I was quite exhausted on Tuesday. Monday evening we had dinner together with Axel, Rob & Moni. Moni is also hungarian so we easily found common ground. After the nice italian food I got experienced of the finnish night life. We visited a pub and drank salmiakki. It's prohibited for youth under 16 here because they think it's too delicious and children probably would have bought a lot of it. You can believe me it was horrible - at least as the dutch dropjes. anyway drinking salmiakki is the part of integration. so I made it.

Next few days we visited a very nice confectionery where we got to be served perfectly in english so I was amazed. We also walked around the city to see the sights. It took 20 min :) finally we went for a walk to have a look in the wonderful nature. We haven't met any bear or fox yet.

In the weekend we were searching for a car but it's a hard job here because our expectations are huge :) we need a car which still works in -30 C. We went to check our house before the furniture arrive and our neighbor were outside so I - the pretty social person in the icy finland - introduced myself and tried to give a good first impression. :) So Rita and her 3 children are our left neighbor. They seemed definitely be better people than our previous neighbor as i remember they grow weed, make bluster in the middle of night and they have dark affairs...Our garden is beautiful without snow. I love it so much. It's sunny, there are a few rock and a big terrase. I can't wait to sit outside with a book or watch how our dog plays :)
In 100 m from us there is a golf course on a big green field, it's lovely, I will run it around for sure. :)

In the supermarket it's still a bit difficult for me to get the right product. But it's more friendly there than in NL. It's never crowded, the choice of the available product is wide, it's open on sundays. My finnish is poor so I am struggling with the shopping. At least I spend less money. :)

Finnish people are nice to foreigners in general what is really welcoming. Hotel receptionist at hilton vantaa was smiling widely when we told him we've just moved here. They are also very helpful but they definitely don't speak good english. I meant the older generation. The newer often refuses to speak englantia, in this way I will know this language soon. I hope :) It would be useful.

I gotta go to drink :) New life, new habits, new jokes :)
